Courses for children

AGE 3-5

O’KEY School provides English lessons for children from the age of 3. This is an amazing trip into the world of English, throughout which your child will learn a lot of new and interesting things with the help of their favourite cartoon and fairy tale characters. The lessons for children of this age are carried out in the form of a game. A child gets acquainted with English phonetics, so that in future he or she will have no problems with pronunciation of even the most complicated sounds.

The first year of study is aimed at getting experience of foreign speech perception, as well as at getting used to communication in a foreign language. During the lessons children learn to perceive English speech through listening. While learning short poems and songs, they improve their memory, memorise new words, and develop inborn linguistic skills.

We realise that it is not easy for a child at this age to sit still for a long time. So, we vary the activities during the lesson, from calm to more energetic ones, and a child explores the world of new language in an exciting way. We sing, draw, paint, watch cartoons, and even stage small performances together.

Our lessons are open for parents, so you can always see the progress of your child yourself.

Children aged 3-4 study with My First English Adventure 1, book published by Longman. It has no exercises in writing; all the tasks have the form of a game. At the age of 4-5 children study with the next part of this book: My First English Adventure 2, revising what they have already learnt and enlarging their vocabulary. The length of each course totals 46 academic hours and takes about five and a half months.

AGE 5-6

The process of learning is based on game format as well, but it is more complicated. At this stage learners study with Happy House 1, 2 books published by Oxford University Press. The length of each course totals 50 academic hours and takes about six months.

We start to prepare children for school, so they get their homework – usually these are tasks based on classwork done, like solving simple crossword puzzles, comparing pictures and colouring them. We are sure that your child will have no problems with such interesting homework!
The process of learning is based on age peculiarities (e.g. different ways of perceiving new information).

These are the major lexical topics covered during this stage:
• getting acquainted;
• food;
• pets and wild animals;
• toys;
• seasons and weather;
• health;
• holidays;
• home life;
• shopping and clothes;
• family;
• parts of body.

The more learners know and the older they get, the more complicated their studying process becomes. From the age of 6, children start learning writing and grammar: they learn how to read and write English letters and sounds, and study simple tenses (Present, Past, and Future). At the same time, children master the language skills they have acquired before.

AGE 7-10

The course depends on previous experience of language learning, if any. Studying is based on the Communicative Approach. Children learn the basics of English grammar and enrich their vocabulary knowledge.

At this age learners study with Happy Street 1, 2 (Oxford University Press) and Messages 1 (Cambridge University press). The length of each course totals 110 academic hours and takes about eight to nine months.

The major lexical topics are:
• getting acquainted;
• animals;
• family and friends;
• seasons and weather;
• clothes;
• school subjects;
• countries and nationalities.

Children study the following grammar topics: prepositions of place, time, and direction; Present, Past, and Future Simple tenses; counting; the imperative mood; adverbs; modal verbs; comparatives and superlatives.

We know that every young learner is unique. Our experienced teachers will help to realise the potential of your child and make learning English a fascinating pastime.
